It is no secret that our society continues to consume more and more energy every day. In the past the more traditional ways to get energy, was through the use of oil, wood, natural gas, and fossil fuels. We are already seeing the drastic effects that global warming can have on our environment, which is why it is so important for us to find alternative energy sources.

Once these energy sources are depleted, then our society will be in major trouble. Natural energy can be harnessed through the use of solar powered systems, which will cut down on global warming. Renewable energy can come in a variety of sources such as wind, water, sun, solid waste, and wood. Over a century ago, individuals strictly used wood as their source of energy. Is the change better or worse? Apparently, the choices we have made are hurting our planet so the change cannot be too good.

There is a very small percent of energy that is produced today, that actually comes from the sun. The government has put incentive programs in place to help with the cost of switching to a solar powered system. In fact, over half the cost of these systems can be paid for through these incentive programs and tax breaks that the government is granting. These programs are specially designed to help us become more energy independent as a society. They are also a way that more and more people can afford renewable energy sources.

The only time that a renewable source of energy is thought of being used is when the supply of fossil fuels begins to deplete, but at that time it may be too late. A green alternative is using a renewable source of energy to help preserve the resources on our planet.

Purchasing solar panels can be a costly investment, but as technology continues to advance the cost of solar panels will decrease. In fact, with the government incentive programs and technology becoming cheaper solar energy systems become more and more cost efficient.

Unfortunately, not all renewable sources of energy have been reliable in the past. Especially, if you consider the effects that rainy days and cloudy days can do to the production of solar energy. However, with new advances in technology this no longer seems to be a problem. There are a number of ways in which solar energy can be used especially with the new designs of solar panel building that help utilize the sun's rays to heat these buildings much more efficiently.

Besides solar heating systems there are also solar air conditioning systems available. Did you realize that your state is more than likely using solar energy in the streetlights around your city? Being able to invest in renewable energy sources will help your wallet as well as our society. There are several ways so that you will not have to invest a huge amount of cash into these systems and the benefits will always outweigh the cost. We all need to stop thinking about the present and begin thinking about the future of our planet.
